Family Halloween Costumes

We are THAT family. We get really into Halloween and matching family costumes. We’ve been coordinating since Jonah was born in 2016 and each year I expect it’ll be the last that the boys want to match. Each year, they surprise me by entertaining another one. Here’s what we’ve dressed up as and the pieces we purchased or made to bring it all together.

2024 - Fortnite

All aboard the Battle Bus, this party is gliding into Halloween as our favorite game characters. Coming this October…

Halloween 2023

We purchased the robe costumes from Target last year and used the wands they had from Universal. We had a few other friends dress up as Harry Potter characters as well and there was already a Hermoine Granger, so I wanted to do something different. I pieced together a Luna costume. They glasses were a little dizzying to wear, but the Quibbler bag was nice to have. We ended up putting my phone and some water bottles in it.

2022 - Mario Party

This was the first year I didn’t try to get away with a themed tee. It was fun running around the neighborhood all dressed up with the boys. Our neighbors get really into Halloween. It’s practically a block party.

2021 - Family Game Night

This was a really fun and creative year for us. We each picked a board game to represent. Jonah picked Battleship. Although the boats peeled off by the end of the night, it was super cute. Jacob picked the Operation game. I picked Guess Who and dressed as Maria from one of the cards. Brandon picked Twister and wore a white tee with colored dots.

2020 - Jurassic Park

This was the year people were putting together PVC pipes to limit contact and slide candy out to their neighbors. Jacob has asthma so we had to be very careful at the time. We decided to break the normal routine and do something that didn’t make us feel like we were missing out. We went primitive camping at Tallulah Gorge and dressed up at Jurassic Park characters.

There was a major storm before we went up north that knocked off all the colorful fall foilage, but it also knocked out power to the area. Since we were already planning to be without power, we were permitted into the state park and practically had the place to ourselves.

2019 - Ocean Characters

This was the first year we all really got into the group costume. Jonah was the first to decide he wanted to be a shark. Jacob decided he wanted to be the diver that took pictures of the shark (notice the camera on his cage). I decided to be a mermaid and Brandon was the life guard. You can’t see it but his shirt says, “Life Guard…of tiny humans”.

2018 - PJ Masks

The boys were really into the cartoon this year and knew they each wanted to be Gekko and Catboy. I was going to put together a cape, but I ran out of time. It was hot this year, so I was happy to have a tee shirt. This was also the year Lularoe leggings were popular so I found a pattern with matching colors.

2017 - Spiderman & Ninja Turtles

The boys picked different outfits this year from the store, so we divided and matched.

2016 - Batman & Robin

This was the only year we would have gotten away with Jonah being a sidekick to Jacob. Now they’re equal partners in everything, including trouble.

2015 - Minions

This was a fun year because it seemed like everyone dressed up as minions, which didn’t matter because the more there are the bigger the excitement. We took Jacob down to the costume contest. You can see a gathering of minions as each group checked out the others.

2014 - Mickey & Minnie Mouse

Jacob was OBSESSED with Mickey Mouse clubhouse his first year of life. In fact, it was the theme of his big boy room when he first transitioned from his crib to the toddler bed. The costume we found was hot and being aware of the fabrics of future costumes became a necessary consideration for future years.

2011 - The Mad Hatter & Alice in Wonderland

This was during our 2nd year of marriage. We went to my uncle and aunt’s house for a party. I was Alice in Wonderland. I’m not sure why I can’t find a picture of me, but here’s a picture of Brandon before we left our apartment. Clearly, he was the Mad Hatter.
